Been On Prozac. Really has stopped working. Would switching to Effexor be good?

Answer:
You have to talk to your doctor about your that.

Don't quit taking the Prozac----stopping it suddenly will give you terrible withdrawals (dizziness, flu-like symptoms and the worst----your depression will get MUCH worse. You'll feel crazy, out of control. And stopping it suddenly can make you suicidal). You have to cut back slowly.
I am on Effexor. I have tried many and this is the only one that works really well for me.

Over time, many meds wear off and you don't feel as well as you did when you first started taking them.

Give it a shot. If Effexor doesn't work, try another until you get it right.
try yoga
try meditation
try a hobby like painting
try enjoying yourself
loving who you are through writing down the good things people like about you
and the good things you like about yourself.
THEN KNOW THAT
*YOUR ARE A PERSON THAT G'D CREATE
AND *YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL BECAUSE OF THAT.
They all stop working after a while. Antidepressants are good for a quick fix jolt to get you up and moving but they poop out eventually. They are not for the long haul. The standard is that physicians keep prescribing more and different %26 higher and higher doses. I was on them for years and finally quit with no help or support from my psychiatrist. I believe antidepressants are more harmful than helpful. That being said do not quit them cold turkey. They are powerful, dangerous drugs and sudden withdrawal can make you very ill.
it is not a game... you are on Prozac and want to switch effexor... do you have sufficient information about these drugs.. from daily dosage to pharmacokinetics... to switch while antidepressant drug treatment is one of the most difficult processing in psychiatry.. it takes a long time to follow up and needs to be very careful. and certain causes must be available for changing antidepressant drug.. at least it needs a clinician decision... many factor's might be validated by your clinician ... your present psychiatric symptoms, response to antidepressant drugs or psychotherapy etc. if it decided to change the drug, most suitable switch planning will be explained you... at least they can think Prozac (fluoxetine) and its active metabolites have a long half-life (two weeks sometimes more) and they will choose to start date for new medication after stopping Prozac...
